The Dictionary of flowers
Lily:
The lily, especially the white variety, has great significance for Christians.
It symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is therefore seen in every
Christian home around Easter.
The flower finds mention in the Bible (Cant. 2.1 and Mat. 6.28). The Convalleria
variety (spikes of white bell-shaped flowers and two oval leaves) which is also
called ‘lily of the valley’ is said to represent the ‘Tears
of the Virgin Mary’. Otherwise too, notions like purity, innocence and
chastity are associated with the lily.
